For trade and commercial customers, ff you are using any item of work at height equipment in the workplace, including a scaffold tower, either as an employee or as a self-employed person, the Work at Height Regulations apply to you. You must ensure that not only the person building the tower is competent but also those who specify, use and supervise or manage the use of a tower are competent to do so. You can find out more about the Work at Height (2005) Regulations & advice on scaffold tower use on the PASMA website.
Yes, access towers are safe pieces of equipment for working at a height. They provide a solid and stable platform to stand on, along with an all-round guardrail to protect from falls. They allow you complete use of your hands to get on with the job. They provide a much safer means of access than ladders and step ladders. Access to the work platform is gained using a ladder system integrated into the frame of the tower, to climb up through the inside of the tower and on to the platform through a trapdoor.
Safe use of an access tower or mobile access platform:
If on-site or in a workplace, the person building the tower should be trained and competent. The most recognised qualification for anyone erecting, dismantling, altering, moving, and inspecting a tower scaffold is the PASMA Towers for Users course. It is a one day course. Once you complete the theory and practical sessions successfully, you receive a PASMA PhotoCard and Certificate with a five-year validity period. If you are a DIY customer using a tower on private land, qualification or training is not a necessity. However, it is still recommended.
It is not expensive to hire a tower. It costs more to hire taller towers, however, we do not charge different rates for different deck widths or lengths. Many companies work to minimum rental periods of six to eight weeks and charge a fixed sum. We offer a more flexible weekly minimum period for scaffold towers, which is ideal for short-term projects and domestic use.
Our ‘standard width’ towers are 1.45m wide. This gives you plenty of space for workers and tools. Our ‘narrow width’ towers are 0.93m – they are designed for use in areas with restricted amounts of space.
You can select a 1.8m deck or a 2.5m deck.
‘Working height’ is a term that refers to the height that the tower gives you safe access to work at. Our towers are measured up to their top handrail. The working height is 1 metre above that – as you can reach up and safely work on something overhead at the height of 1m above the handrail.
From 1st April 2022, our suppliers will only fuel machines with white diesel. This is due to new government guidelines.
If you, as the hirer, refuel any equipment while it is in your possession, it must be with WHITE DIESEL.
YOU MUST NOT USE RED DIESEL IN HIRED MACHINES OR EQUIPMENT.
If you return a machine refuelled with rebated diesel, suppliers will have to remove and dispose of the fuel. They must also flush the tank and supply lines before they can refuel them. The process is chargeable, with no exceptions.
