How to utilise a lighting tower on your construction site
Light towers are often only considered as an afterthought on construction sites, but these great pieces of kit can be used for a lot more than you’d originally think given some thought.
What is a Light Tower?
A light tower is essentially a piece of equipment used to illuminate an area, they come in many shapes and sizes, some being mini and others being extremely tall. Light towers typically have four metal legs and a mast that extends upwards to the desired height. The type of bulb and height depends on the model you opt for.
The Benefits
- They can save you money on generators and fuel being used to power lights.
- They provide a safe environment to work in at night or in poorly lit areas.
Choosing the right size lighting tower for you
The size of the tower can matter a lot, if you go for something too small it won’t be effective but something too big will be pricey. So how do you choose one that’s just right?
- Consider what area you need to illuminate. Bigger areas will require taller, more powerful light towers.
- Take into account the height of any objects or buildings in the area you wish to illuminate, these objects could cast a large shadow if the tower is too small.
Installation and Operation
- Always follow the manufactures instructions.
- Ensure the tower is properly grounded.
- Inspect the tower to ensure it is in good working condition regularly
- Do Not Use an extension cable with a light tower
- Store the lighting tower properly when not in use
